Blair Barbero's Biography:
Blair
was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he started playing the bass
guitar at age 17. His early sources of musical inspiration can be
identified as any 1970's progressive rock band with a bassist who ever
played a Rickenbacker -- Kansas, Genesis, Rush, Yes, Deep Purple,
Starcastle, etc. Other influences have included EL&P, Jeff Beck,
Frank Marino, Black Sabbath, King Crimson, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd,
The Doors, Cream, and Fels Naphtha. ...and, of course, The Beatles.
Blair,
aka "T.H.E. Machine," has played with several bands during his
years at Oklahoma State University and Tulane while studying finance and
accounting. Most notable was "Zyrian" playing alot of Ted
Nugent, Led Zeppelin, Kansas, and some originals. Zyrian was most
notorious for rocking Molly Murphy's Cafe in Stillwater, Oklahoma, with
'Purple Haze' with the amps turned up to 10. The band claimed to
be "the last word in rock 'n roll" because Zyrian is the very
last word in the dictionary.
Although
he stayed active pursuing his music passion, Blair didn't play with a band
for years after a bad band soap opera incident: The drummer got
the lead singer pregnant, who had just broken up with the guitarist.
The drummer lived with his 'real' girlfriend, who had the house where the
band practiced. The girlfriend rightfully kicked her cheating drummer
boyfriend out of the house and had the locks changed--locking the band
equipment inside the house. The drummer broke into the house to
retrieve his drums, so she had him thrown in jail. She also pawned all
the band's equipment, so we had her thrown in jail. It all went
downhill from there.
In
recent years Blair has been indulging in the high technology of music--MIDI,
digital audio recording and production, and gadgets that just make alot of
cool noises. Under the artist name "The Mind of Blair," he's
embarking on a (unintentionally) lifelong project called
"Guitarmageddon." As the self-proclaimed instrumental
soundtrack to the final days of Planet Earth, "Guitarmageddon"
will feature programmed guitar and drum parts, as well as Blair's LOUD bass
work. Imagine Mr. Spock as an energetic teenage heavy
metal guitarist with seven fingers jamming with Nine Inch
Nails -- That's "Guitarmageddon."
As
the newest member of The DarDans, and the only non-singer, Blair keeps
trying to work up the courage to step up to the mic. "I have the
soul of a singer...but the voice of an injured cat," he explains,
"but there may be a proper time and place for an injured cat vocal
style."
Blair
enthusiastically proclaims, "I love being a DarDan! This band is
the most fun I've had in years!"
The Mind of Blair is a terrible thing to waste so visit the following website to find out more. . if you dare!!! FAVORITE QUOTE:
"Forsake your quest for knowledge and seek bewonderment." (I don't know who said that. I may have made it up myself. Is 'bewonderment' a word? What does it mean?)
